Humanity

Defining the relationship between human nature and culture in the present-day has become a popular topic for academic and social debate. What it means to be human is again a matter for public discussion. The Humanity research group concentrates on the interaction between the natural and cultural conditions of human existence, and examines socially relevant interpretations.
We emphasise the anthropological evaluation of the incorporation paradigm in the life sciences and cultural studies, and also focus on the continuing development of a methodologically differentiated anthropology, that brings out the genre-specific structural features of human life in engaging with the phenomena of alterity/otherness. The aim of our work is to bring representatives of specialist research areas into dialogue, to explore the preconditions and potential for an integrated view of what it means to be human, and to reflect critically on the ability of current anthropologies to provide guidance to society.
